The Town Municipal Council Kundapur was constituted in 1973. Kundapur is coastal town in Udupi district and is 36.K.M away from Udupi.
Kundapur TMC consists of Kundapur Kasaba and Vaderhobli villages with 23 council wards.The main occupation of Kundapur people is Fishing and is secondary source of income is from coconut cultivation. 

The town is surrounded by famous pilgrims like Kollur Mookambike, Hattiyangadi, Anegudde, etc.
The name can be traced to the Kundeshwara temple built by Kundavarma in the vicinity of the Panchagangavali River. 
Kundapur is also described as the "TOWN OF THE SUN". 
Kundapur stretches to an area of 14.01 Square Kilometers(Sq.Kms).

The Government of Karnataka awarded the certificate of appreciation to Kundapur TMC in the year of 1996-97, Best Urban Local Body Award-2009-10, Second Best Practices Award-2010 for Reduction of Non Revenue Water Supply, Third Best Practices Award-2010 for Solid Waste Management(SWM) for providing excellent Municipal Services, maintaining Healthy environment, the best utilization of 18%,22.75%,7.5%,3% reserved fund also for the social service activities.

Town Municipal Council also grabbed Green Leaf Award-2009, Nation Urban Water Awards-2009, ICONSMW Award-2011 in National level
