Kundapura: Karantha Huttura Prashasti - 2013 Conferred on Educationalist Dr Mohan Alva

Educationalist Dr Mohan Alva was conferred with the annual Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti-2013 for his service in Education, Art and culture, at the Sri Shambhavi Vidyadayini School, Giliyaru, here on October 10.


Anand C Kunder, President of Karantha Huttura Prashashti Prathistana Kota, welcomed the gathering. Shridhar Hande introduced Dr Mohan Alva to the gathering. Former Chief Minister and also the Opposition leader of Legislative council D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Udupi District minister in-charge and state urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake presented the award to Dr Mohan Alva.
 








In his message, D V Sadananda Gowda lauded the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat for instituting the Karanth Huttura Prashasti. There was no other litterateur in Kannada having deep knowledge of diverse fields like Dr Shivaram Karanth. Dr Karantha's contributions were not limited to literature, but contributed immensely towards many other fields including environment, film, stage play, publishing and science. DVS asked the young generation to inculcate at least few of Karanth's thoughts in their lives.

Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, Dr. Mohan Alva also spoke on the occasion.

Kota Thattu Grama Panchyat president Shobha presided over the function. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi Zilla panchayat president Upendra Nayak, Taluk Panchayat president Gowri Poojary, Zilla panchayat member Sunitha Rajaram, Taluk Panchayat member Bharath Kumar Shetty, Kota Grama Panchayat president Shiva Poojary, Udupi district Kannada Sahithya Parishath president Neelavara Surendra Adiga and others were present.

The award instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat in Udupi district, in memory of the Jnanapith Award winner late Kota Shivaram Karanth, is being given annually since 2005. The earlier recipients of Dr Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti are
