Udupi: Mercy Trophy Organizers to conduct Late Anandaraya Kamath Memorial Cricket Tournament

Udupi, NOV 22 2013: The Mercy Trophy Organizers of Moodubelle will conduct Late Anandaraya Kamath Memorial Cricket Tournament on Saturday,  28 December 2013 from 9 am to 6 pm in at St Lawrence PU Ground. According to the organizers this tournament is open to the Udupi Taluk level teams and entry will be limited to 12 teams on the basis of first come first serve. The Last date of
registration is 15th December 2013.

The winners will receive a cash prize of Rs.7,777/- and the Trophy and Runners Up will receive a cash prize of Rs. 5,555/- and the Trophy.

This is the third year that the Mercy Trophy Organizers will be conducting the Limited Overs Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament for a cause. The aim of the tournament, according to the organizers of the trophy, is not only to encourage the rural youth to manifest their talent in sports, especially cricket, but also to commemorate the service rendered by late Anandaraya Kamath, the former teacher of St. Lawrence High School, Moodubelle who was an ardent lover of cricket and who promoted the love of cricket among the students. Besides, like previous years, the organizers would endeavor to generate sufficient funds to help the underprivileged students and families who are in need of financial assistance.

Giving details of the previous years' tournaments and the assistance provided to needy families and students, organizers said that 11 underprivileged students of St Lawrence Degree College, Moodubelle whose fees amounting to  INR. 50,945.00 was paid last year. Similarly, 7 other families and  Manasa Pamboor were the beneficiaries from last year's Mercy Trophy. One of the elderly women with no children suffering from breast cancer and one family who is survived with 2 physically challenged grown children were given an assistance of Rs 1,000.00 every month for a period of one year. In the first tournament that was organized in 2011, four needy families were provided financial assistance.

The Mercy Trophy Organizers have expressed their gratitude to the generous sponsors and well-wishers who had been kind enough to sponsor the tournaments earlier and expect many more such generous sponsors and well-wishers to make this year's Late Anadaraya Kamath Memorial Cricket Tournament a grand success.
