Mangalore: International Airport is now Operational 24X7
Mangalore: The international airport had acquired night-landing facilities long back. Yet there was a virtual shutdown with no movement of aircraft after midnight until early hours.
After the departure of the AIX flight to Dubai at 11 pm until the arrival of Air India flight from Dubai around 4-30 am, there used to be absolute quiet on the aviation side for a few hours. During this interval, the customs, immigration, canteen, ticketing counters and other facilities remained closed.
Now the lacuna has been filled. With a view to encouraging more flights to operate, the airport has been open round the clock from Dec 1. In fact, it is mandatory for any international airport to remain open 24 hours.
If this information is widely publicized, more airlines may be encouraged to introduce new services in this sector. Those overflying the airspace can think of making a stopover. Travelling in the night could mean saving of time for executives, businesspersons and others with a tight schedule.
