Udupi: Renowned Educationist Dr M Mohan Alva to Receive Karanth Huttura Prashasti
Udupi: Well known Educationist Dr M Mohan Alva Chairman of Alvas Education Foundation Moodbidri has been chosen for the Dr Kota Shivarama Karanth Huttura Prashasti (Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth Birthplace Award) for 2013 said Ananda Kundar Working president of the award Committee.
He was addressing the press persons at the Press Club
here on Monday, September 16. The Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth Birthplace
award instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat in Udupi district, in
memory of the Jnapith Award winner late Kota Shivaram Karanth, is being
given annually since 2005.
The earlier recipients of Dr Shivarama Karanth Huttura Prashasti are
Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily (2005), the former Karnataka
Lokayukta N Venkatachala (2006), educationist K R Hande (2007),
journalist and writer Ravi Belegere (2008), Yakshagana artiste Chittani
Ramachandra Hegde (2009), filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli (2010),
Environmentalist Salumarada Thimakka (2011) and Theatre artiste B
Jayashree (2012).Dr Mohan Alva is a legend in the field of education in Dakshina Kannada district and is known for his selfless service in the field. He had set new standards in extending education to the deprived sections of the society not only in Dakshina Kannada district, but also in other districts in the State.
Dr Alva also established the Alva's Education Foundation in 1995 at Moodbidiri and started a per-university college to begin with, which grew into a chain of educational institutions providing quality education at affordable costs to more than 11,000 students. Another of Dr Mohan Alva's initiatives is to adopt students from the economically weaker sections and provide them free education with accommodation in his institutions.
To Mark the birthday of Dr Shivaram Karanth various programmes are organized from October 1 to 10. State women's welfare minister Umashree, Education minister Kimmane Rathnakar Hegde, Udupi-chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Kundapur MLA Halady Shrinivasa Shetty and other prominent personalities will be chief guests of this event, he said.
Kotathattu Grama Panchayath president Shobha, PDO Jayaram Shetty, Udupi district Kannada Sahithya Parishath president Neelavara Surendra Adiga, Award selection committee president Vittal v Gavnkar were present in the press meet.
