Kundapura: Major Fire Breaks-out at Hosangadi - Shimoga Road
Kundapura, Oct 21 2013:
A Lorry carrying 300 HP gas cylinders was totally destroyed with maximum number of cylinders being exploded in Balebareghat in Hosangadi-Shimoga road here on Monday October 21 evening. No casualties have been reported.
The truck carrying nearly 300 HP cylinders from MRPL to Deekshith gas agency in Rannebennur was burst in the Ghat and the casualties are not reported as there is dense forest without human habitat. The truck driver Ajay who suspected something unusual on observing fumes inside the truck, stopped the lorry and checked. On observing, he could see the fire spreading to the body of the truck. He immediately tried bringing the situation under control by using the fire extinguisher, but in vain. He threw some 10 cylinders outside the truck. Finally he approached the Amasebailu police station and immediately police took action.
The high-tension wire that was passing overhead was neutralized and the fire department personnel rushed to the spot. Following which the traffic was blocked. The truck was totally charred with most of the cylinders exploding. With the cylinders exploding the fire was huge covering a area of more than 100 meters. The department officials taking all precautionary measures controlled the fire from spreading to nearby forest.
The incident took place at around 4.30 and went up to 6 pm. Currently the road is cleared and the situation is returning back normal. The traffic was resumed late in the evening.
A case is registered in Amasebailu police station.
