Kundapura: Sahamatha holds Sowharda Deepavali-2013 in the city

 
Kundapur, 02 Nov 2013: 
"Sowharda Diwali -2013", the festival of lights, was celebrated with pomp and fanfare at the Kala Mandir of Government Junior College, on Friday November 1. Sahamatha, a social organization, hosted the programme.


Dr Hayavadana Moodusagri, Convener of Jathimuktha Sambhanda Vedike Udupi, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sagri said, "Communalism is growing in the developing world; people must be united to fight against it. There are many religions in the world but there exists a strong religion of brotherhood which should not be affected by communal factors."






Well-known writer Peer Bhasha speaking on the occasion said, "Festivals should build the country and not divide its citizens. To live in peace and faith, the barriers of religion must not exist."

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, presided over the programme. In his message the bishop said,

"Love, unity and peace are the prime goals of all religions. Every religion advocates peace and not communalism. The modern era is promoting communalism to divide people. All religions are equal and every religion should be respected. Let Deepavali bring in a ray of hope and peace to all."

Valerian Menezes Kota welcomed the gathering. Shashidhar Hemmadi, Convener of Sahamatha, delivered the key note address, Dinakar Bengre compered the programme
