Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple, Tekkatte
Mahalingeshwara Temple is situated in Tekkatte which is about 95kms from Mangalore and 10kms from Kundapur. The Shiva Linga in this temple is the oldest statue in Kundapur taluk. Here the God is called Mahalingeshwara and Umamaheshwara.
History says that the Linga was installed by the sage Parashurama (an Avatar of Lord Vishnu) about a thousand years ago. Later in the time of drought the saint Vadiraja (1480-1600) restorated the lord to secure the village.
The Shiva Linga is made of pure alum and about 16" tall from Paanipeetha (usually total length of Shva Linga is equal to twice it's height.) There is a statue of Nandi exactly in front of the Lord.
The main sanctuary was renovated on 2nd April 1998 by Shree Vishwottama Teertha Swameeji in the presidency of Dr. Veerendra Heggade. At this time a statue of Lord Ganapati found and is installed inside the temple.
There is a Pushkarini (small lake) in the north side of the temple. A belief that there is another Shiva Linga inside the Pushkarini. So, the water is considered as a part of holy river Bhageerati.
