Mangalore: KSRTC Seeks to Introduce Dharmasthala-Murudeshwar Volvo Bus Service

Mangalore: With a view to linking various pilgrimage centres in the coastal circuit, the Mangalore division of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has sought clearance from the regional transport authority, headed by the deputy commissioner of DK, for a Volvo bus service between Dharmasthala in DK district and Murudeshwar in Uttar Kannada district.

The appeal was made at the meeting of the RTA held in the office of the deputy commissioner here on Saturday. The KSRTC has felt encouraged by the public response to its intercity Volvo bus services introduced lately.

The organization has also sought to introduce more buses on the Mudipu route since there is good response to the existing services and also a demand for more. But the private bus owners objected to it saying that there were already enough KSRTC buses on the route. They asked as to what the private operators should do if more KSRTC buses are introduced, obviously complaining of possible losses to them.
Two citizens who attended the meeting made some interesting observations. One of them wondered how it was possible for the private bus owners to keep buying new buses every now and then, if they really ran their service under loss.

Frequently they keep hiking their fares, citing rise in diesel price and loss due to other reasons. When the diesel prices fall, they never revise the fare downwards, he complained.
The other man said that every time there was a demand for new permits for KSRTC, the private operators complain about the existing heavy traffic within the city. However, it is an open secret that many private buses which, in accordance with the conditions of the permit, have to terminate their journey in Kankanady, Kottara and Mallikatta and the like, but continue to operate up to the maidan bus stand.
And this happens so close to the offices of the RTO and the DC, right under the nose of the officials. Yet no check is kept and no action is taken, he said. He added that it was amusing to see that such objections are faced only by the KSRTC when applications are submitted.
