Kundapura: World Aids Day Observed
Kundapur, Dec 4 2013:
District Administration in association with Zilla Panchayat, Udupi, Health and Family Welfare Department, District Aids Prevention Unit, National Service Scheme and Bandharkars College observed 'Word Aids Day' under the theme "Bring HIV to zero level", at the College Auditorium here on December 3.
The programme began with an invocation. Dr Ramachandra Bayari, District Health and Family Welfare Officer welcomed the gathering.
The programme was inaugurated by Upendra Nayak, President Zilla Panchayat Udupi by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Dr H Ashok, District Aids Prevention Unit in his keynote address said that 36 Million people in the globe are infected with HIV. More awareness programmes should be held throughout the world to avoid new infections. The Youth are the most affected, widespread campaigns to educate Youth about HIV infection and its prevention should be held.
Upendra Nayak, ZP President speaking on the occasion said that, efforts are made to prevent HIV infections in the district. The infections among new born babies have reducing which is a good sign.
Rajeshwari Shetty, Ashok, Meenakshi, Latha, Geetha who have been campaigning about HIV infection were felicitated on the occasion.
Mamatha Shetty vice president ZP, Kalavati, Town Municipality President Kundapur, Mamatha R. Shetty, Vice President ZP, Ganapati Sriyan, Standing Committee President for Education and Health, P Narayan Shetty, Principal Bandharkars College and others were present.
