Bangalore: City gets Namma Wi-Fi free hotspots

Bangalore: Internet access even as you shop, track if you have lost your way, be connected with near and dear ones on social media. All this and more will be a reality from today as the Department of IT, BT, S & T of the Government of Karnataka launches, for the very first time in India, Wi Fi connectivity in the commercial hotspots of Mahatma Gandhi Road, Brigade Road, Shanthi Nagar bus station, Yeshwantpur bus station, Koramangala bus station and on CMH Road Indiranagar in Bangalore city.
Namma Wifi (802.11N) will be presently available at these locations and this service will be extended to 10 more locations over a period of time. This initiative will benefit scores of people who visit these commercial hubs. The service can be accessed on laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
Shri Roshan Baig, Hon'ble Minister for Infrastructure Development, Information & Haj presided over the function even as Shri S R Patil, Hon'ble Minister for IT, BT, S & T and Statistics and Planning, Government of Karnataka and Shri Ramalinga Reddy, Hon'ble minister for Transport, District In-Charge Minister for Bangalore were chief guests.
With a speed of upto 512 Kbps, the user will have seamless connectivity within the coverage area. Usage will be limited to 3 hours per day or usage of upto 50 MB data. The total number of access points will be 23 in the coverage area which will accommodate 2000 users at the same time. To use this service, the user will need to have an authentication password which will be sent to the user's mobile phone number after he registers on the network.
