Gujarat: Vicar General Fr Rocky D'Silva (65) of Kundapura Origin Dies in an accident

Gandhinagar, Gujarat: Fr Rocky D'Silva (65), vicar general of Gandhinagar diocese, originally hailing from Trasi, Kundapur in Udupi district of Karnataka, died in a tragic mishap on Dec 30.
As he was walking out of his residence in Pethapur, he was hit by a truck and fatally injured. Although he was rushed to the Apollo hospital, his life could not be saved.

Hailing from Kallani in Trasi of Kundapur taluk, he was the seventh among the eleven children of Anthony D'Silva and Martha D'Silva. Very devout since childhood, he was attracted to the priestly vocation after his Xth standard education.
He is survived by his siblings Sylvia Lobo, Helen Pais, Ireunes D'Silva, Irene D'Souza, Stany D'Silva, Monica D'Souza, Sr Stella and Sr Flavy (both of Apostolic Carmel congregation), while others have passed away.

Having served in Gujarat for over four decades, he was very popular among Christians and non-Christians alike. Besides being the vicar general of the archdiocese, he was also the director of the pastoral centre in Gandhinagar.
His funeral rites will be held in the Sector 8 Catholic Church in Gandhinagar at 4 pm on Thursday, January 2, 2014. One of his close family members is expected to arrive from Kenya to attend the funeral.
