Kundapura: Inter-Religious meet 'Christmas Bhandhvaya' held
Kundapura, Dec 16 2013:
An inter-religious meet 'Christmas Bhandhvaya' organized by Catholic Sabha Kundapur deanery was held at the St Mary's College Auditorium here on Sunday December 15.
The programme began with an prayer dance by School children. Vinod Crasto Kundapur deanery president welcomed the gathering.
Rt Rev. J S Sadananda of the Church of South India (CSI) - Karnataka southern diocese inaugurated the programme.
In his inaugural message Bishop Sadananda said, "Christmas is the feast of God sharing His love with us. Jesus as our Savior brought the 'good news' that our God is a loving, forgiving, merciful and rewarding God who wants to save us through His Son Jesus and not a judging, cruel and punishing God. Jesus demonstrated by his life and teaching how God our heavenly Father loves us, forgives us, and provides for us. Christmas reminds us that sharing love with others is our Christian duty and that every time we do so, Jesus is reborn in our lives"
Chief Guest of the Function Savithri Nayak-Thasildar of Kundapur lauded the noble work of the Christian community in India and urged that all human beings need to show love and compassion to one another. Human values such as peace and compassion are the need of the hour, she said.
Udupi Diocese Bishop Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the programme. In his message, the Bishop said that Christmas was a festival of peace and compassion. People should forget the past and follow the ideals and teachings of Jesus Christ. People should shun selfishness. They should develop and follow the spirit of sacrifice. They should serve society selflessly. "We should first adopt peace and compassion in our daily lives and then become its representatives and teach it to others," he said.
Over 800 people from various Christian denominations like Roman (Latin) Catholic, Syro Malabar, and Protestant participated in the programme.
Kundapur Deanery head Fr Anil D'Souza, Catholic Sabha Udupi Diocese president Elroy Kiran Crasta, CSI Church Kundapur pastor Yesudas, Mudoor Syro Malabar Church parish priest Fr. Sebastian, Catholic Sabha secretary Shanthi Periera, former president Prescilla Menezes were
present on the occasion.
