Manipal: MMMC students are the trend-setters of Manipal University
Manipal, Dec 8 2013:
“You students of Melaka Manipal Medical College are the trend-setters of Manipal University,” said Dr H.S.Ballal, Pro Chancellor while addressing the gathering at the 16th College Day and Awards Ceremony of the Manipal Campus of MMMC at Fortune Inn Valley View here on Friday. His observation was in reference to the all-round outstanding performance of the students which was highlighted by the Dean of the Institution, Dr Ullas Kamath in the annual report.
“We wish that the students of every institution follow the trend set by you, excelling both in academics and sports,” Dr Ballal said and praised the Malaysian students for their sincere efforts in classrooms and outside it -- Students with 100 per cent attendance in two years, students with distinction in subjects, students who have excelled in sports emerging at the top in athletics, and also students who have done well in cultural activities -- MMMC represents every aspect of a complete institution.
The Dr T M A Pai gold medal for the best outgoing student in MBBS Phase I went to Teh Xi Zin. She was the pick of the lot.“And in fact,” Dr Ullas Kamath said, “no one has done better than her in all these years. She is the first student in the history of MMMC to be awarded both The Dr T M A Pai gold medal and DrShobaNadig gold medal,” he said.With a number of bests to her credit, she outshone every student. The ShobaNadig Memorial prize for the second best outgoing student in MBBS Phase I was awarded to Melissa Tan Chug Hui.
Teh Xi Zin blazed a glorious trail excelling as: the best student In Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, highest aggregate marks In Phase I Stage I, best student In Phase I Stage I, best student In Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Highest Aggregate Marks In Phase I Stage IIa, Best Student In Phase I Stage IIa, winner of Dr.ShobhaNadig Gold Medal,with six distinctions In Stage I And Stage IIa and 100% Attendance In Both Phase I Stage I And Stage IIa
The other best outgoing students were:In BDS Phase 1 Year 1 university examination held in August 2013: Mr.Khoo Sheng Choong. In MBBS (Batch 31) Phase I Stage I university examination held in August 2013: Mr. Chen WaiKhang. In MBBS (batch 30) Phase I Stage I university examination held in February 2013: Ms.Kwa Hsiang Ling
The faculty achievers were: The audio visual teaching material 1st prize was bagged by Mr Sambit Dash, Mr Jay Prakash and DrUllas Kamath. 2nd prize was shared between two teams being, Ms.Sapna, Ms.Ashwini L S, Dr. Mohandas Rao K G and Dr. S N Somayaji from Department of Anatomy and Dr.AnnammaKurien, Dr.PriyaPatil, Dr.SeemitrVerma from Department of Pathology. Dr. T M A Pai gold medal for best research paper was awarded to Dr.Sareesh N N from Department of Physiology.
The good teacher awardees were:Dr.Chandrika D Nayak and Dr.Guruprasadrao, both Professors of Biochemistry. In Phase I Stage IIA, the awardees were Dr. Vinod Pallath, Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Dr. K Ramanarayan, Professor of Pathology and Vice Chancellor, Manipal University. In Phase I Stage IIB Dr. Santosh U Pai, Professor of Surgery was bestowed with the award. Dr Swathi Pai was the recipient of the award from the Faculty of Dentistry.
MMMC presents the Annual Day very differently. The award function alternates with entertainment programmes. There were various forms of dance melodious songs too. The highlight of the evening was the song sung by the father-daughter duo, Dr.Ullas Kamath and his daughter Sindhu. The faculty entertainment programme themed “Voyage” showcased the shifting of all departments of MMMC from the old to new building.
