Udupi: Kaniyoor Math performs Battha Muhurat

"Battha Muhurat", the last ritual ushering the pre Paryaya preparations for the next biennial Paryaya of Sri Kaniyoor Math, one of the Asta maths was performed on Thursday December 12.
Sri Vidyavallbha Theertha Swamiji will be ascending to
the "Paryaya Peeta" on January 18, 2014 to perform his Second Paryaya
at Sri Krishna math. Elaborate rituals marked the 'Bhatta Muhurat'.
After offering prayers at Kaniyoor Math, A procession carrying Batthada
Mudi (paddy containing in hay bags) in a decorated palanquin was taken
out in the Car Street.
Battha Muhurtham (storing of paddy) is the fourth and the last
preparatory ritual before the main event of Paryaya festival. In this
ritual the incoming Swamiji, who will take over the charge of Sri
Krishna math for the next two years from the outgoing swamiji under
biennial Paryaya system among the eight swamijis performs the Puja.
Following this, the procession proceeded to Badagu
Malige, the store house during Paryaya in the temple. Chappara
Muhurtham was also performed on the occasion. A few rituals were also
performed at the Badagu Malige. Later, the Navagraha Daana was given
to the representatives of other maths.
Sri Vidyavallbha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math will ascend the
sacred Paryaya Peeta on January 18 in the sanctorum of Sri Krishna math
