Kundapura: Rape attempt on Minor girl, Accused Absconding!

Kundapur: Just as the accused in the Delhi gang rape case have been found guilty, back here an attempt to rape a minor girl in Tudalli near Haddagadde has been reported on September 10.

Sharada (name changed) aged 13-years, who is a student studying in 8th standard at Hosur Higher primary school, belonging to the SC community, was alone at home when Arun Narayan Poojary (26), her neighbour visited her house asking for water. He also insisted Sharada to prepare tea for him. When she went inside the kitchen, Arun attempted to rape her.

When Sharada screamed for help, Arun assaulted her, but she managed to escape from Arun and locked herself inside another room. But this incident came to light after 10 days of attempt to rape and a case has been registered in Bhatkal police station. The accused has been absconding. It is also learnt that some political leaders are supporting the accused and trying to dilute the case.

"After 8th standard the girl students are not allowed to continue their education in Byndoor and Kundapur because in villages it is dangerous for a girl to walk alone to the school. If we need to educate every girl child the police should give protection to the village girls and strengthen the hopes of their parents. Police should take this case seriously and arrest the accused as soon as possible", said the Director of Spoorthidama Institute, Dr Keshav Koteshwar.

He further said, "When there were rape cases in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and many other cities, people got into the streets and protest against it. But in our own locality, in front of our own eyes our own sister's have been raped, molested, harassed and we have closed our eyes. This should not happen. We need to raise our voice against such crimes and pressurize the administration to arrest the accused within 2 days of time".
If the accused is not arrested soon, we will stage a massive protest in Byndoor and Bhatkal, said Dr Keshav.
